PENON DE GUATAPE, Antioquia, Colombia - 4K UHD -| Virtual Trip

The Peñón de Guatapé or Piedra del Peñol, is a huge rock located just a few kilometers from Guatapé, the most colorful village of Antioquia in Colombia. This giant monolith of 220 meters high offers a 360 ° panoramic view over the flooded valley of Guatapé, and it is the essential complement to the visit of the village.

Guatapé and La Piedra are in the middle of the artificial lake created in 1970 by the Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM). At the time more than 2000 hectares of land were flooded, and what was a matter of discord between the inhabitants and the government became today a real tourist asset for the whole region. The small hills have become islands, Guatapé and Piedra del Penol are highlighted by this artificial lake, and this unique landscape attracts thousands of curious.
To enjoy the view from the top of Peñón, it will climb 659 steps. We first reach a large platform, and if we want to climb even higher, there are twenty additional steps to reach the roof of a tower-lookout. It's sporty, but feasible.
