The first prize winner of this year's Radel Veena Online Senior Level competition is young Vijayanti Pappu. This teenager studying in the 11th grade, is a student of Vainika Vidushi Dr R S Jayalakshmi.
Vijayanti's rendition of the difficult Todi raga, with tanam, as well as neraval and swaram for the Tyagaraja kriti 'Raju Vedala joothaamu raare', was absolutely mind-blowing in its maturity and expertise. She handled the instrument with effortless ease, and floored the judges with her almost professional level of playing, far beyond her young age.
Congratulations, Vijayanti! Many congartulations to her guru, Dr R S Jayalakshmi. This youngster is sure to make a mark in the world of Carnatic music.
