At the Local Climate Action Summit, held ahead of COP30 in Rio de Janeiro, Sir Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, U.K., and Co-Chair of C40 Cities, highlighted the success of the London Ultra Low Emission Zone, which brought air pollution within legal limits in just nine years, far ahead of the original 193-year projection. Mayor Khan then introduced a panel on city-led climate action featuring The Mayor of Freetown, Sierra Leone, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr OBE; the Governor of New Mexico, U.S., Michelle Lujan Grisham; and Lord Mayor of Hobart, Australia, Cr Anna Reynolds, in conversation with Akshat Rathi, Senior Climate Reporter at Bloomberg.
