Sex. Money. Power. These three forces control more lives, destroy more families, and damn more souls than anything else in human history. And the Apostle Paul knew it.
Writing to churches in the Roman Empire one of the most sexually immoral, materially wealthy, and power-obsessed cultures ever Paul confronted these three idols head-on. And what he wrote 2,000 years ago is exactly what our generation needs to hear today.
Our culture worships sex. We're told sexual freedom is ultimate freedom, that pleasure has no consequences, that your body is yours to do with as you please. But Paul said in 1 Corinthians 6:18-20: "Flee from sexual immorality... You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
Our culture worships money. We're told success equals wealth, that happiness comes from having more, that financial prosperity is the ultimate goal. But Paul warned in 1 Timothy 6:10: "The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs."
Our culture worships power. We're obsessed with status, influence, recognition, and control. But Paul who once had all the power and status wrote in Philippians 3:7-8: "Whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ... I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ."
This is the truth no one wants to hear. But it's the truth that will set you free if you're willing to hear it.
