The Shed - Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Rockwell Group - NYC

In 2019 along the High Line, The Shed opened to commission and present works of art from all disciplines. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and the Rockwell Group, the building has a telescoping enclosure with an exposed diagrid steel frame covered with lightweight ETFE.

The design was inspired by English architect Cedric Price’s unbuilt Fun Place as a flexible venue. The Shed’s eight levels provide theater spaces and galleries with Howardena Lindell’s work on display during my visit. The McCourt is a space for large scale performances and installations that is enclosed by by the outer shell that rolls across the open plaza out from the base of the adjacent apartment tower designed.

Just below the High Line next to The Shed, you’ll find Chef Jose Andres’ Mercado Little Spain with a variety of food choices. I tried the delicious gazpacho from the Spanish Diner.
