23 Year old Inchgower - Signatory Vintage Cask Strength WHISKY REVIEW | Whisky Loot

Описание к видео 23 Year old Inchgower - Signatory Vintage Cask Strength WHISKY REVIEW | Whisky Loot

In this week's whisky review, Tim and Gustavo taste a sherry bomb scotch whisky from one of the most acclaimed independent bottler, Signatory Vintage.

This is another dram that maintains the track record – a single vintage whisky, distilled in 1997 at the Inchgower distillery. This spirit was aged initially in Bourbon hogshead casks, before a finish in a single fresh Sherry butt for 34 months. Typical Inchgower spice is matched up nicely with Sherry sweetness.

Signatory Vintage’s perhaps unusual name dates back to the initial business plan – of having a notable person sign every bottle they produce. This rather impractical approach to packaging was soon abandoned, but what has sustained is the commitment to bottling excellent whisky.

Sig Vin, as the bottlers are affectionately known, is regarded as one of the foremost bottlers in Scotland. For this bottling, they’ve picked out a single cask from the Inchgower distillery in Speyside, which is said to produce the spiciest new make in the industry, whilst its waxy texture has become compared to that of Clynelish. Bottled at cask strength, this is a powerfully assertive dram that can take a splash of water.

Just 690 bottles were drawn from the single cask.

Tasting notes:

Nose:
Complex and inviting, with a blast of Sherried dried fruits joined by lemon juice, red apples, vanilla custard, oak, and chocolate-covered raisins.

Taste:
An oily, rich mouthfeel serves up a freshly baked apple pie profile, with cinnamon, fresh pastry, nutmeg, cloves, brown sugar, and caramelized apple. A little nuttiness comes with time.

Finish:
Long and featuring all the earlier spices in abundance. Salted caramel, lemon zest, and a lingering waxy-oak note add complexity and depth.
