Описание к видео When will the soft spots on my baby's head go away?

When you look at your newborn baby, you probably notice some soft spots on his or her head. There's a diamond shape at the top, and there's lines that are soft, and then on the back, there's a smaller triangle with lines that connect to the top and also go to the side. These soft spots are scary to parents, because they're worried that they might be able to touch their brain or something. And it's good to be careful with them, but there's lots of membranes and layers between the skin and the brain, so it's okay. These bones will close slowly over time. They exist for good reason, because, for one, the baby needs to be able to mold to the shape of the birth canal so that they can be born. And then during the first 2 years of life, the brain is growing rapidly, so the bones can't fuse right away or else it wouldn't accommodate for that growth.

So you'll notice that they slowly close over time. The back one usually closes by about 6 months, and the top, usually by about 12 to 18 months. You may notice, especially in the beginning when the soft spots are a little bit bigger, that when your baby cries or strains, you see a little bit of a bulge. Or if you sit there and your baby is really calm, you can kind-of see like a wave-like appearance - it correlates with the baby's heartbeat - that's totally normal, and again, that will go away as the bones start to fuse together. If you have more questions or concerns about it, talk with your pediatrician and they'll look at it and decide if it's normal or if they need to look into it. If you have more questions for me in the future, feel free to ask them on our Facebook page at   / intermountainmoms  , and recommend us to your friends and family too.
