In this lecture I will be discussing the basic working principle and construction of a three-phase induction motor.

The working principle is based on Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. When a three-phase supply is given to the stator, a rotating magnetic field will be developed. This rotating magnetic field will cut the rotor conductors, which will induce current in the rotor according to Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction. The induced current in the rotor conductor will interact with the magnetic field to produce mechanical force. Sum of all the forces gives the resultant force.
