Swirly Cowl

#5 yarn (Chunky) About 180 yards

I used 1 and 1/10th of Wool and the Gang “Wool me Tender”, Cameo Rose. ( you can use wool ease as well: https://amzn.to/2V1yzXn)

10.5US (6.5mm) needles : https://amzn.to/2Ne51n2

K=knit

P=purl

ps1=pass the first stitch of every row.

m1tw=Make 1 stitch twisted

k2 tog=knit 2 stitches together

p2tog=purl 2 stitches together

Make 60 chains with I hook and scrap yarn.

Pick up 55 stitches through the back “bumps” of the chain.



Setup Row1.- Knit 55

Setup Row 2.- p1, Purl 54

These 2 rows will count as rows #1 and #2

(only at the beginning of the cowl).

=You always have 55 stitches at the end of each row.=



Row 1.- ps1, k1, m1tw, knit to last 4 stitches, k2tog, k2.

Row 2.- ps1, purl

Row 3.- ps1, k1, m1tw, knit to last 4 stitches, k2tog, k2.

Row 4.- ps1, purl

Row 5.- ps1, k1, m1tw, knit to last 4 stitches, k2tog, k2.

Row 6.- ps1, purl



Row 7.- ps1, p1 m1tw, purl to last 4 stitches, p2tog, p2.

Row 8.- ps1, knit

Row 9.- ps1, p1, m1tw, purl to last 4 stitches, p2tog, p2.

Row 10.- ps1, knit

Row 11.- ps1, p1, m1tw, purl to last 4 stitches, p2tog, p2.

Row 12.- ps1, knit



Repeat these 12 rows until piece measures about 23”,

measuring on the side where you have the knit 2 togethers.

I counted 18 ridges in total.

That is: 9 times the above 12 rows.

Then I made the Kitchener Stitch (Grafting).

You end with a cylinder looking piece.

Weave in the ends.
