I first visited Nepal in May 2018 as part of a long term project with The Beacon Church who have been successfully helping establish an Orphanage in Kathmandu for the past decade in partnership with a young Nepalese couple called Nawaraj and Vidhya.

The project grew to an area called Gimdi after Nawaraj invited Alex, our church minister to visit his home town. During his first trip he met a 3 year old boy called Dev who was homeless and abandoned. Dev's father had passed away before he was born and his mother, suffering from extreme poverty had remarried leaving Dev culturally orphaned. Dev was living under a piece of broken wood, naked and with just a blanket with a nearby family sharing the little food and resources they had with him. It was expected that Dev wouldn't survive the upcoming monsoon season.

The Church immediately responded, donating the finances needed to move Dev into a foster family and a year later Dev is in school and living with family that love him.

While we were able to make a difference to Dev's life there are many other children facing challenges ranging from being unable to afford education, access to food during the dry season or suffering from homelessness.

We want to help this area transform and see child poverty eradicated from Gimdi. We're working with the area in two ways, the first is through child sponsorship ensuring every child in the area has access to at least one hot meal every day and secondly by enabling the area to be resourced with a medical centre, toilets, farming professionals and emergency accommodation to help make Gimdi an area free from poverty.

You could be part of the change by making a one off donation that will be used directly for the Gimdi fund to provide meals and education for the children of Gimdi. Every penny donated goes straight towards the cause via The Beacon Church as the UK charity (registered as a charity under Sandon Road Baptist Church) and directly to the school Gimdi.

For a £12 per month commitment you could change the life of a young person in Gimdi with your donation providing a daily meal, school uniform and all education costs. You will receive a picture and some information about the child you sponsor and be able to write to them and follow their journey.
