Attorney Joe Zarzaur and Dr. Evan Malone share some eye-opening data regarding a new trend in accidents that require emergency room visits - Injuries due to cell phone distraction.

DISTRACTED DRIVING / TEXTING AND DRIVING
We've talked about cell phones many times in other videos and how dangerous they are to use while driving, because obviously the numbers each year go up for distracted drivers who end up causing a horrible car wreck because of their cell phone.

There have been many consecutive days where we hear a potential client come to Zarzaur Law about a car wreck case, and then mention something about the other driver said they were on their phone, or somebody saw the person on the phone, and they slammed into the back of me or they T-boned me not paying attention.

DISTRACTED PEDESTRIAN INJURIES – A GROWING CONCERN
You can be injured as a pedestrian yourself by using your cell phone when you shouldn't be.

An Orthopedic Journal published a study in mid-July that warned people of injuries from cell phone use. It looked at all the different injuries that are reported at ERs and urgent cares.

There's been a 2900% increase in pedestrian injuries due to cell phones. That's almost 3000% increase in injuries that are being attributed to cell phone use. People complaining about orthopedic injuries because they were walking and looking at their phone or texting on their phone or trying to capture this video of themselves doing something risky or trying to take selfies of themselves and falling off structures and dying.

SIDE NOTE: In 2019 alone, we had almost 600 pedestrians killed people, non-occupants of cars killed because someone was in their car using a cell phone.
