An old hypothetical situation popular among the pro-abortion crowd has had new life breathed into it. A stand-up comic is now considered one of the great philosophers in the pro-abortion camp because he uses this particular moral dilemma. Again, the argument is not new. It goes like this:

A building is on fire. Inside the building is a five-year-old child and a room full of human embryos. You have only two options: save the five-year-old or save the embryos. What will you do?

If you answer that you would save the five-year-old, you are immediately labeled a hypocrite by the pro-aborts because you chose the "living" (as they would say) child over the embryos. Therefore, it is asserted, you really don't care about the unborn.

If you answer that you would rescue the embryos, then the pro-aborts paint you as a monster because you chose embryos over a "living child."

There are a number of fallacious elements to this argument. In this video, during a brief moment of calm among a group of vicious and vile pro-abortion students from the University of Iowa, I address one of the fallacies--the False Dilemma logical fallacy, which I mistakenly refer to in the video as a "false dichotomy."

A "false dichotomy" is a question posed in the following manner: "Do you still beat your wife?" This is a false dichotomy because it assumes you have beaten your wife and asks if you have stopped. It is a false dichotomy because there is another option: you never have beaten your wife.

A "false dillema" (which is frequently presented by pro-aborts) occurs when only two choices are presented when more exist, or a spectrum of possible choices exists between two extremes. False dilemmas are usually characterized by “either this or that” language, but can also be characterized by omissions of choices.

Answering this moral dilemma is simple. Do not accept that there are only two options, no matter how insistent the pro-abort in front of you is. State another option that shows deference for ALL of the HUMAN lives in the burning building.
