1. Foundation and Early History

• Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) was established under the NSTU Act on 15 July 2001.

• The foundation stone was laid on 11 October 2003, and campus construction was formally inaugurated on 24 March 2005.

• Academic activities officially began on 22 June 2006 with the first batch of students.



2. National Position and Recognition

• NSTU is the 27th public university and the 5th science and technology university in Bangladesh.

• It operates under the University Grants Commission (UGC) and is academically autonomous.

• Many of its engineering programs are accredited by IEB (Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh).



3. Location and Campus Overview

• The university is situated in Sonapur, approximately 8 km southwest of Maijdee, Noakhali.

• The campus spans over 101 acres of scenic land.

• Institute of Information Technology (IIT) — founded in 2015

☆ The university currently has 31+ departments, offering programs in fields like CSTE, EEE, ICE, ACCE, ESDM, Pharmacy, Fisheries, English, Sociology, MIS, Tourism, Education, and Law.

• It was listed in the Nature Index (2024) for contributions in environmental and physical sciences — with 64% international collaboration.

• Coastal Environment Network (CEN)

8. Leadership and Administration

• The current Vice-Chancellor is Professor Mohammad Ismail, appointed on 6 September 2024.

• Administrative divisions include: Registrar’s Office, Controllers, Research Cell, Planning & Development, Internal Audit, and Public Relations.
