Oldest And Historical Baoli Step Well In Jandiala Sher Khan District Sheikhupura

In this video we will show you the 456 years old trade market, baoli and sarai which was constructed by the Emperor of Hind Akbar-e-Azam famous General Sher Khan in 1568. Here a Mosque of Mughals period was also constructed which is sorry to say today has been deserted. In ancient time the whole area was consists of forest and there were big bunches of trees. According to some tradition there were the trees of jand. Sher Khan came from the Kandahar province of Afghanistan and he joined the army of Akbar-e- Azam. On the order of Akbar-e-Azam Sher Khan came to Jandiala Sher Khan and here constructed a military garrison. There was shortage of water in this area. At that time here lived a Sufi saint named Syed Ghaznavi. Sher Khan was very impressed from this saint and he implemented all the things of this saint downright. Sher Khan constructed a baoli on the advice of this Sufi saint to fulfill the requirements of water. Baoli is called such well from which stairs go the water level means the access of water is through stairs. This baoli is called Y in Persian. A Mosque was constructed on the corner of this baoli you will remember the past. The troops of army were drank water from this baoli while the elephants and horses drank water from this baoli also. There was no iron grill on the well here a man killed his woman and threw in this well than government installed an iron grill here. There was a tunnel and according to local people that went to Sheikhupura fort but now no sign remain of this tunnel. Till 2010 the condition of this baoli was very deserted the Archaeology Department Punjab tried its best to restore this well in its original shape and restore it in best condition sufficiently. There were installed inaugural plaques at that time and after see the decrepitness of these inaugural plaques General Ghulam Jilani shifted these plaques in Lahore museum in 1971. Later the local people installed the quite same inaugural plaques here accordingly self-help. Sher Khan constructed a sarai here to facilitate the trader of Punjab and Kashmir so that they could sell and buy their goods easily here. 4 rooms were constructed on the four corners of this roof and a big room was constructed between its roof. The ground plan is conceived as a central domed chamber surrounded by eight smaller rooms, a motif known as Hasht Bihisht "eight paradises" which had great importance in Mughals architecture and this design was very famous at that time. A baoli was constructed under the ground floor of this historical place sarai was constructed on ground level and trade market was constructed on top floor. 2 types of stairs were constructed on the building of this baoli one for go up and second to come down. In fact this is a historical place of Pakistan and the people who love from history should visit here. You will feel peace here. This building is situated in famous town Jandiala Sher Khan of District Sheikhupura of Province Punjab Pakistan. The location of this place is situated on Google map also.This baoli, sarai and Mosque are one of the ancient historical buildings. Government of Pakistan should take care and safe these buildings for coming generations.
