The Freedom of Uselessness is an ongoing experimental film by Samuel Felinton and Declan Mungovan that explores the idea that there is freedom in being completely useless — in creating something enormous simply for the sake of existing.

This project began at 11:59 PM on August 26th and will continue running until it reaches 100 days in length. Because YouTube only allows a maximum of 12 hours of footage per video, the film has been broken into many separate parts. Each part continues the experience — an unbroken stream of time that challenges what a “film” can be and what it means to create something with no purpose other than to exist.

The film follows two moss balls, Spoiled and Bubba, through an expansive, meditative journey that blurs the line between art and absurdity. Their stillness becomes a symbol of freedom — a quiet rebellion against the need to be productive or useful.

At its core, The Freedom of Uselessness is a cinematic experiment — a meditation on endurance, existence, and the strange beauty of doing something simply because you can.
