Today I'm proud to announce my VC firm Initialized Capital led a $10 million Series A in Career Karma. Their community is helping people find the right coding bootcamp or university for their needs, while also helping them meet other people with similar backgrounds who have done what they want to do: get six figure jobs in tech and help their families, friends, and neighborhoods. Ruben Harris and his cofounders broke into tech themselves, and now they are helping a new generation of people get into tech.

Y Combinator showed that it takes a village to achieve success: watching Brian Chesky speak at weekly dinners made it clear you as a founder could succeed too. The YC Community has created $150 billion worth of value and that's thousands of people. In the same way, Career Karma will work with millions of people who need job retraining— building a community of people who will help each other over their entire careers. They've built a fast growing profitable startup on this idea: Colleges spend $10 billion per year on just recruiting and marketing. Job retraining is a key piece of helping people bridge the digital divide while also reducing income inequality.
