Following his crowd-pleasing debut in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, audiences were bursting with excitement to see the soon-to-be king of Wakanda, T’Challa (played by actor Chadwick Boseman), return to the big screen.

Picking up directly after the death of King T’Chaka (John Kani), Black Panther follows his son’s journey to assume the throne as leader of the technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda. However, before T’Challa can claim his birthright, he must first prove his worth through ritual combat – without the assistance of the heart-shaped herb, a mysterious plant that grants the Black Panther extraordinary power.

After being challenged by the American-born Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), a man of Wakandan origin, T’Challa is defeated and his crown taken. Left for dead, T’Challa must find the strength to reclaim his kingship from the usurper before Killmonger uses the advanced weaponry of Wakanda to wage war on the rest of the world.
