25th June 2023 - North and East Yorkshire Chase

A hot, humid plume of air was present over most of the UK to start the day with temperatures rising to around 28-32c along with dewpoints into high teens. A cold front pushing in from the west was bringing in fresher air behind a band of heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms. With cooler air from the Atlantic moving in atop of the hot plume in situ, thunderstorms were likely to develop, especially across northeast England where wind convergence just inland from the North Sea coast was expected to aid the development of storms. The day ahead brought the risk of severe elevated thunderstorms and so I headed to the highest risk area to chase whatever developed in a very picturesque part of the country, the North York Moors.
