Everyday carry retractable brass hook tool for opening doors, pushing buttons, and avoiding touching surfaces.

I think many of us are sharing the same experiences under the current conditions. With COVID-19 bringing the world to a standstill the daily news consists of social distancing, wear masks, wash your hands, etc. Although I try to practice the guidance provided by the CDC, when I go out to buy groceries/gas there are some things that are very difficult to avoid. These include

Pressing elevator buttons
Pressing intercom buttons
Pressing keypad buttons (at the cash register, at the gas station, etc)
Opening doors (maybe not car doors though due to risk of scratching. I might make a Delrin hook version if there is enough interest)
Pressing light switches
Turning water facets on and off
All are surfaces that many people touch multiple times a day. And if you've ever cultured bacteria like I have (I'm a mechanical engineer by trade but I took bio/chem/cell molec classes in college since biomed is one of my interests), you'll know that microbes are ubiquitous. While washing your hands and using hand sanitizer helps, even if you are detail oriented and pay attention to all of the surfaces you touch, it is almost impossible to clean your hands after touching a surface without touching anything else! (ie, your hand sanitizer bottle, steering wheel, etc). I created this device to reduce the number of hand-to-surface instances and to help us navigate through the times we are living in today.

This is a small brass retractable hook. It is spring loaded and is actuated by a slider mechanism. This is prevent it from triggering by accident (like getting hooked on keys). The contact surfaces are sheathed within the aluminum housing away from contacting anything else. It is intended for gently (don't tug on it super hard, superman) opening shop doors and pressing buttons (it does also work on some of the pressure sensitive touchscreens I've tried it on). The contact surface, brass, consists of 61% copper (and I should also mention, 3% lead, not a problem unless you eat it). Copper is a good surface as far as economical metals go for killing microbes. If you need to, you can also dunk it in alcohol or bleach to sterilize it although this may begin to tarnish the brass (the brass will tarnish slowly over time anyways). Just don't let it soak for too long (just dunk it enough for all the surfaces to be coated with your solution).
