This film was produced by students undertaking the module 'Making Cities' in 2019/20. Dalston Curve Garden is a public open space in the London Borough of Hackney, located in an area undergoing rapid development and change. The film looks at the process through which the open space was created, its relationship to its context, and the threats to its future arising from surrounding commercial real estate pressures.

This film, along with the 3 other examples of student work available on YouTube, should give you a flavour of the diversity of projects and themes addressed by the students, and the range of techniques used to communicate the issues raised.

Making Cities is a unique module at The Bartlett, in that it is the only opportunity for all those undertaking undergraduate programmes in Planning to work alongside students studying Architecture or Construction and Project Management. It aims to build a shared understanding of the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in the shaping of the built environment at all scales, and uses live and recent projects in London as the basis of lectures, seminars and coursework. Students work in small mixed teams to research assigned projects that exemplify important contemporary themes, and communicate their findings through the production of short films together with group and individual written reports.
