Intel & AMD TEAM UP - FSR Support For Intel Xe & DG2 Silicon Teased | Stacked Die Ryzen in Q1 2022

AMD's recent computex event had the company finally provide us some solid information on their upsampling technology known as FSR. But an interesting turn of event - Intel might wish to officially help support AMD's FSR technology. Intel will soon be releasing its own discrete Intel XE GPUs, with the gaming variant known as DG2. Intel's Raja Koduri has stated that he would be very interested in working with AMD in supporting FSR, and if Intel's DG2 did support FSR it would raise very interesting questions about Nvidia's DLSS support going forward.

Further, Raja also showed off an Intel Xe chip, with "512" written on it. This engineering sample is almost certainly the highest end DG2 silicon, with 512 representing the number of execution units on the chip. The highest end skus will likely be paired with 16GB of GDDR6 memory and compete rather well with Nvidia's current mid to high end cards.

Finally, AMD's Ryzen stacked chips with 3d V Cache will likely launch Q1 2022, and be based on the Zen 3 processor architecture. Possibly this means that Zen 4 will not launch until later in 2022, and zen 3 stacked processors will sport a 10 - 15 percent performance bump at the same clocks. Whether these chips work in older boards (such as the 400 series) isn't known, but they seemingly will remain AM5, so owners of 500-series boards will be okay. The stacked Ryzen with 3d V cache will represent likely enough performance to take on Intel's Alder Lake (launching Q4 2021), but the question is how much the stacked ryzen processors will cost.
