Pop star Rihanna extended her support to the ongoing farmers’ agitation in India. She became the first global name to voice her support to the protest. The 32-year-old singer took to Twitter sharing a news article by CNN. Rihanna tweeted. “Why aren't we talking about this? #FarmersProtest.” The tweet evoked reactions from fans and celebrities and caused her to trend on the social media platform. Actor Kangana Ranaut, who had supported farm laws called Rihanna a ‘fool’. She said protestors were not farmers but ‘terrorists who are trying to divide India’. Climate activist Greta Thunberg also extended her support to the protesting farmers. She tweeted, “We stand in solidarity with the #FarmersProtest in India.” Actor Richa Chadha hailed Rihanna and Greta Thunberg for their support. Canadian YouTuber Lilly Singh also thanked Rihanna for the same. Meanwhile, Farmer unions announced a countrywide 'chakka jam' on February 6. Police beefed up security and put up multi-layer barricades to stop movement of vehicles. Barbed wire has also been put up to keep off people on foot. Farmers have been protesting since Nov 26 against the three newly enacted farm laws. Watch the full video for more.
