The Nomad's Way, 272 miles from The Old Nag's Head, Edale to The Old Nag's Head Monmouth is a through hike designed by Steve Knight to raise money for the Ukrane Charity, a charity who raise money for immediate disaster relief as well as supplying funding for children, orphanages and educational programs.

While starting off in high spirits, buoyed in the knowledge of meeting Martin later in the day, this was the hardest day of the whole Nomad's Way for several reasons. Firstly, the weather conditions while starting off settled, turned dire as the day went on. From late breakfast time the rain began falling and it continued relentlessly all day until that evening when I reached Great Longstone. Secondly, my fitness levels at the start of the walk were very low, and the amount of ascent I undertook this day were ridiculous, it is a wonder how I managed it. I was gassing after every climb and needed breaks regularly. Thirdly, when I met Martin, I had a prolonged break for breakfast and a longish stop at the pub in Eyam. Rarely did I do this on the whole walk, but considering the dog rough weather, it was perhaps needed. Lastly, when left Martin in Eyam, those last 5 miles were arguably the hardest of the whole Nomad's Way and would need to be reconsidered moving forward when establishing it as a popularised through hike. Some of the paths are disused and impassable. This perhaps is because of the now disused Horseshoe Quarry once excevated by Tarmac for its rich limestone. This caused me to get very lost ascenting near vertical inclines and as a result scaling barbed wire fences. For the fittest of young folk, probably no sweat, but for an unfit, soaked, tired ageing lad, it was quite dangerous. That said, I prevailed! I owe a big thanks to Andy and Lisa at Counting Sheep in Great Longstone for helping me when I was soaked to the bone. I really appriciate the washing and the help guys!
