"At this moment, we are preparing to hand over 16 Ukrainian soldiers. All of them are soldiers belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There are 16 people and (their release) is our goodwill gesture. Because Ukraine unfortunately doesn't aim to have them released. But their mothers, wives, children, do call us and ask (to let them go). I think we have to finish (this process) and I hope that the Ukrainian side will do the same.

And 104 were released from Luhansk. We were given back 222 people. There were only 32 pro-Russia rebels amongst them. The others were civilians. STORYLINE
Pro-Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine on Monday freed 16 Ukrainian soldiers who were held as prisoners of war.
The Ukrainian soldiers had been held since they surrendered to the rebels at Donetsk Airport and in Debaltseve following fighting.
The handover was done at the first check-point controlled by the Ukrainian army near the town of Marinka.
Daria Morozova, Ombudswoman from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, said she hopes that the Ukrainian government will also release the rest of the pro-Russia fighters.
Separatists claim that Ukraine is holding around 1370 rebels as prisoners - a figure that could not be immediately confirmed by Kiev.
Fighting has largely abated in eastern Ukraine, although contained skirmishes still occur.
More than six-thousand people have died in the conflict, which started last April.
