It is one of the oldest and largest Temples of Kerala, and has been a major destination for devotees in India for centuries. It is well known for its architectural grandeur and unique customs, which are unique to the temple.There are stone-wooden carvings and mural paintings inside the temple. Being one among 108 Divya Desams,Sreevallabha temple has been glorified by Alvars and many other ancient works. It is considered to be the vallabha kshethram mentioned in Garuda Purana and Matsya Purana.Kathakali is played daily in the temple as an offering, pushing it to the top in India in terms of places where Kathakali is staged on the largest number of days per year.Vishnu appeared here as Sreevallabha for sage Durvasa and Khandakarnan.Pleased by the prayers of an old Brahmin lady, Sreevallabha incarnated as a Brahmachari and killed the demon Thukalaasuran. Later the deity of Sreevallabha worshipped by Lakshmi and Krishna was installed in the temple in 59 BC.From then till date, the temple follows its worship protocol that is known to be followed nowhere else yet. Sage Durvasa reach the temple every midnight for worshipping the Lord. The temple governed one of the biggest educational institutions in ancient times and heavily contributed to the cultural and educational developments of Kerala
How to reach
Situated 750 meters south to Ramapuram[1] vegetable market and 500 metres south to Kavumbhagom[2] junction on Thiruvalla–Ambalappuzha state highway (SH-12), Sreevallabha temple is just 2.5 km away from Thiruvalla railway station and 2 km from KSRTC bus stand.[3] Both KSRTC and private bus services are available frequently. Auto-taxi services are also available.

1.ഏറങ്കാവിലെ കാര്യം പറഞ്ഞതിൽ ഒരു തെറ്റുണ്ട്. ശെരിക്കും അവിടുത്തെ ശാക്തേയ ഉപാസകർ ഉപാസിച്ചിരുന്ന യക്ഷിയെ ആണ് കിണറ്റിൽ ബന്ധിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്.എന്നിട്ടാണ് ഭഗവാൻ മുകളിൽ ദേവീ പ്രതിഷ്‌ഠ ചെയ്തത്.ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞത് ഒരു യക്ഷീ സ്വഭാവമുള്ള സ്ത്രീ എന്നാണ്.
2. വടക്കു പടിഞ്ഞാറ് ഭാഗത്തുള്ള അയ യക്ഷി മായ യക്ഷി സങ്കല്പവും തെറ്റാണ് അത് വലിയമ്പലത്തിന്റെ ഇടനാഴിയിൽ ആണുള്ളത്.വടക്കു ഭാഗത്ത്‌ രണ്ടു സാന്നിധ്യങ്ങൾ ഉള്ളത് ഒന്നു വർഷത്തിൽ ഒന്നു മാത്രം തുറക്കുന്ന വടക്കേ ഗോപുരത്തിൽ സാന്നിധ്യപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ള ഒരു യക്ഷീ സാന്നിധ്യവും പിന്നെ വടക്കു പടിഞ്ഞാറായി ഏറങ്കാവിലെ ഭദ്രകാളീ സാന്നിധ്യവുമാണ്.
3.ഗുരു അപ്പ സ്വാമിയുടെ യഥാർത്ഥ പേര് ഗുരു ഭൂതനാഥ സ്വാമി എന്നാണ് പിന്നീട്‌ അത് ലോപിച്ച് ഗുരു അപ്പസ്വാമി എന്നും കുരയപ്പ സ്വാമി എന്നുമായി മാറിയതാണ്.ആദ്യകാലത്തെ സാന്നിധ്യം കൂടിയാണത്.അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഭഗവാന് മുൻപിൽ വടക്കോട്ട് മാറി പുറം തിരിഞ്ഞിരിക്കുന്നതും.അതിന്റെ പ്രാധാന്യം കാണിക്കാനാണ്.
4.ഉത്രശ്രീബലി എന്നത് മീനമാസത്തിലെ മകയിരത്തിനു കൊടിയേറുന്ന 3 ദേവിമാരുടെ ആറാട്ടെഴുന്നള്ളത് ശ്രീ വല്ലഭ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെത്തുമ്പോൾ വടക്കേനടയിലൂടെ പ്രവേശിച്ചു  ശ്രീവല്ലഭനും സുദർശനമൂർത്തിയും കൂടി 5 പേരും കൂട്ടി എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കുന്ന ആ ചടങ്ങാണ് ഉത്ര ശ്രീബലി.അതായത് മീനത്തിലെ മകയിരം മുതൽ 8ആം ദിവസം വരുന്ന എഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പ് എന്നർത്ഥം.ആറാട്ടിനു പോകുമ്പോഴാണ് ഉച്ചശീവേലി സമയത്തുള്ള എഴുന്നള്ളിപ്പ് നടക്കുന്നത്.ആറാട്ട് കഴിഞ്ഞു തിരിച്ചു വരുമ്പോൾ ദേവന്റെ ഉചിതമായ ശീവേലിക്കൊപ്പം എഴുന്നള്ളിക്കുക എന്നുള്ളതാണ് മറ്റ്‌ രണ്ടു ഭഗവതിമാർ വടക്കേ നടയിൽ കൂടി പുറത്തേക്കു പോവും.ആലം തുരുത്തി ഭഗവതി ചടങ്ങുകൾക്ക് ശേഷം വിഷുക്കൈനീട്ടം വാങ്ങി വടക്കേനടയിൽ കൂടി പുറത്തേക്കു പോവും.
5.സുദർശന മൂർത്തിയെ പ്രതിഷ്ഠിച്ചിക്കുന്നത് ഗർഭഗൃഹത്തിന്റെ പുറം ഭിത്തിയോട് ചേർന്നുള്ള ഇടനാഴിയിലാണ് രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഇടനാഴിയിൽ അല്ല.
6. അതുപോലെ പുറത്തെ കുളത്തിന്റെ കാര്യം പറഞ്ഞതിൽ കീഴ്ശാന്തിക്കാർ കുളിക്കുന്ന ചെറിയ കുളം ആദ്യകാലം മുതൽക്ക് ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. വിലക്കിലി നമ്പൂതിരിയുടെ പത്തായ പുരയുടെ സ്ഥാനത്താണ്‌ രാമയ്യൻ കുളം കുത്തിയത് അതാണ് വലിയ കുളം.
