Описание к видео Wembley FC 3-2 Langford FC | The FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round 11/08/12

Wembley FC 3-2 Langford FC
The FA Cup with Budweiser
Extra Preliminary Round
12.45pm, Saturday 11 August 2012
Vale Farm, Wembley FC

The football legends were outshone by a local hero as these two sides did not fail to disappoint in front of a live television audience.

The presence of Terry Venables as Wembley manager and special FA Cup with Budweiser signings such as Ray Parlour, Martin Keown, Graeme Le Saux, Claudio Caniggia and Brian McBride resulted in this being the first ever tie to be broadcast live at this stage of the tournament.

It was a tense tie from start to finish, but the big stars were left in the shade by young Wembley striker Daryl Atkins, who scored twice and was named Man of the Match.

Atkins was Wembley's leading scorer last season with 32 goals and he admitted: "This is right up there with anything I have done.

"I was playing pub football before this so to be on the same pitch as these great players was immense and amazing.

"We all played to the best we can because of it. Hopefully we can have a good run in The FA Cup now."

Ian Bates, Wembley's regular player-manager, joked: "Daryl is really raw and still learning, but that was his best game so we will have to put him on a contract now."

Venables said: "It was a game worthy of an FA Cup tie. Langford kept fighting and that made it hard for us.

"They pushed us all the way and you have to hope that you get the winning goal.

"[Atkins] has got something - no doubt about that. He works his socks off too - more than most. I am not going to say what he can do, but it has been there to be seen today."

Wembley, a Combined Counties Premier Division side, went ahead in 13 minutes when Caniggia took advantage of a defensive mistake to score with a classy fight foot shot with only the goalkeeper to beat.

It means the former Argentina striker who played in the Scottish Cup for Rangers has now also scored in the World Cup and The FA Cup.

Langford, from the Spartan South Midlands League Division One, did not look too troubled, though, and responded in fine fashion when they equalised through Ashley Fitton after 31 minutes.

But they were only on level terms for two minutes as Caniggia played a hand in setting Atkins on his way for his first goal of the game.

Atkins extended Wembley's lead shortly after the break and although Langford pulled one back and pressed for an equaliser it was the home side that finished stronger.

Wembley will now face local rivals Uxbridge in the Preliminary Round and the stars will be out again.

Former England and Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman, who has been coaching the Wembley shot-stoppers, said: "When we agreed to do this it was for The FA Cup run so we will be involved all the way."
