Tracks: 'Nomad Song 2' @ 00:43 and 'Snow Lion 2' @ 9:25 An exclusive recording for The Rhythm Divine of the Tibetan/Australian musician Tenzin Choegyal and the Metta String Ensemble, together for the first time.
It's a completely new genre of music, what we might call Tibetan Folk Chamber Music. And as far as we can tell Tenzin is the first Tibetan musician to write and perform with a Western classical group.
'Nomad Song' draws on Tenzin's own nomadic heritage in the Mustang region on the Tibetan border where he was born. The songs were composed by Tenzin, with the strings arranged by Katherine Philp, a freelance cellist who performs with the Camerata of St John's in Brisbane. She also played cello there with Kirsten Williams, a violinist and co-associate concert master with the Sydney Symphony who founded the Metta String Ensemble. Tenzin and the Metta String Ensemble are playing for the Dalai Lama's sister, Ama Jetsun Pema la, while she's in Australia with Tenzin himself opening for the Dalai Lama's public talks.
