The Getaway - Mission #2 - Burning Bridges (4K 60FPS).

The Getaway (2002) video game walkthrough. No cheats, mods, resting, or switching vehicles in this playthrough. Recorded in 4K at 60FPS. Played using the PCSX2 emulator, allowing the game to be upscaled to 4K resolution and played on PC instead of PS2.

=== FAQ ===
How did you do this? How is the game in such good quality?

The game is played using the PCSX2 emulator. The emulator allows the original PS2 game to be upscaled into 4K quality. This is not a mod and the game has not been modified. You can play any PS2 game this way using the emulator.

What are your PC settings? What settings do you use in PCSX2 for the game?

See below.

How can I play the game in this quality? Can I do this for free?

You need to download PCSX2 and ImgBurn. Both programs can be downloaded for free. Once done, you can put your PS2 disc of The Getaway into a laptop or PC with a CD Rom and rip the CD using ImgBurn. ImgBurn will create an iso (Disc Image) file which can then be played and run using PCSX2, allowing you to play The Getaway on your PC. You must own a copy of The Getaway on PS2 to play it on PC so you can rip it legally. You can buy the game for less than a pound on eBay.

Why is there occasional lag?

Unfortunately, the game does not run perfectly. Whenever smoke appears lag occurs in the game. As such, I try to avoid creating smoke as much as possible in this specific walkthrough, hence why I do not brake sharply or look at smoke.

When I try to play the game, I get lots of lag during cutscenes, how can I fix this?

I go into more detail below but the best thing to do is to adjust core settings, enable speedhacks, and change EE cycle skipping from 0 to 1.

Why are there no loading times in your playthrough?

As mentioned, the game does not run perfectly. Cutscenes do not play very well when using certain settings. To maintain maximum quality, I recorded gameplay and cutscenes separately in different playthroughs using different settings and edited them together in Vegas Pro.

What version of the game are you playing?

The USA Version.

Do you think there is ever going to be an official remaster of the game?

Unlikely. They will probably never remake, remaster, or even release the original game on PlayStation Store for multiple reasons (mainly licensing and money-related issues), so this option is the best we have for getting anything close to a remaster or remake of this classic game.

=== PCSX2 Settings for The Getaway for best quality ===
Assuming your PC can handle it the best settings I have found are the following:
Plugin Settings:
Renderer: Direct3D 11 (Hardware)
Adapter: Default Hardware Device
Interlacing: Automatic (Default)
Texture Filtering: Bilinear (PS2)
Internal Resolution: 8x Native (~2880p 5K)
Anisotropic Filtering: 16x
Core Settings:
Enable Speedhacks
EE Cyclerate and EE Cycle Skipping: 0 (SEE BELOW FOR CUTSCENES)
Other Hacks: TICK EVERYTHING EXCEPT Enable fast CDVD
If you are experiencing lag in cutscenes change the EE Cycle Skipping to 1. If any cutscenes freeze or glitch out, change cycle skipping to 0 and lower EE cyclerate to 3, 2, or 1. When replaying the game you can set both of these to 0 again and just skip every cutscene using R3 for best gameplay results.
