Sunset Photography | Settings and Tips

The high clouds on the Western horizon looked so promising for sunset on this day that I went to Lake Eden to hopeful capture some rewarding sunset photos. Instead of using my Nikon D500, I decided to use my 2008 Nikon D90 with the Nikon 18-140mm lens and see how good the photos would be with the D90. I also used a NiSi Polarising Filter and a 3 stop Medium Graduated Filter to help balance the bright sky to the darker foreground.

Even though the Nikon D90 is only a 12px DSLR it takes really great pictures Day or Night, and with an ISO range of ISO200 to ISO3200 you’ll be able to capture stunning Sunrises/Sunsets or amazing Milky Way Nightscapes with it.

I’ve talked about using the Nikon 18-140mm F/3.5-5.6 G ED VR AF-S lens for Landscape Photography and pairing this lens with the D90 will give you a great entry level kit at a budget price.
