In a move set to significantly boost India's trade capabilities, the Indian government yesterday approved the construction of a new mega-port in Maharashtra called Vadhavan. The project, valued at over $9 billion, is expected to propel Vadhavan into the ranks of the world's top 10 ports upon completion. Vadhavan will be situated on the Maharashtra coast, strategically located to serve two key trade corridors: the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor and the International North-South Transportation Corridor. This positioning allows India to strengthen its connections with Europe, West Asia, Central Asia, and even North America.
