WiCCD presents a Special Interview by Maya Shukairy with CLA's former President and WiCCD's 2022 WiCCD ALLY Award, John Struthers as he returns to the defence bar after a period on leave. In this exclusive interview, Maya Shukairy gets the opportunity to discuss an update on John’s return to practicing criminal defence. John Struthers is the former President of the Criminal Lawyers Association (CLA) and is a prominent criminal defence lawyer. Under John’s brave leadership, the CLA paved a way for the criminal defence bar to transition into a virtual legal world — a challenge that required strong leadership.

John’s vision and guidance truly helped the CLA empower criminal lawyers to navigate the challenges brought on by the pandemic. We also get a glimpse into John’s love and talent for music in his personal life!

John Struthers has been a vocal and effective ally of his women colleagues in defence, ensuring that women can lead in positions of authority and denouncing the disrespect we face. He was the recipient of WiCCD's inaugural WiCCD Ally Award in 2022.
