Why would someone glue with NEVE instead of SSL?

The #Glue Compressor par excellence is the #SSL Master, it has earned this title for its ability to unite mixes and at the same time increase their punch, groove and movement creating the sound commonly associated with rock, pop and styles characterized by energy. But what to do if we are mixing a ballad that already sounds too energetic and punchy?

The #Neve 2254 was created with the same purpose as the SSL (it has nothing to do with Glue), which was to be part of a mixing console as a module and although it is not as well known as a Glue Compressor it has also been used extensively with this purpose for its ability to create a fat Glue that works very well in mixes where SSL simply does not help.

For this comparison we aimed at an average of -2.5dB of GR and Output at Unity.

Two features that particularly help to convert the 2254 into such a unique and versatile bus compressor are the Limiter (not being used in this example) and the de-esser. The latter is still a valid form of glue compression but focused on the high frequencies which can be beneficial in many more cases than one could imagine.
