In this lesson, we explore the simple past tense through regular and irregular verbs, using the inspirational text from the life of Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web.
👩‍🏫 Pedagogical note: We present the regular and irregular past tenses together so that learners can work from authentic and interesting texts, rather than artificially simplified ones. The irregular verbs covered here are very common, and the rule for regular verbs is very simple.
🔍 In this lesson:
We read a text about the life of Tim Berners-Lee and compare his past life with his present life.
We recall how to form regular verbs:
◦ Most verbs ➝ add -ed
◦ Verbs ending in -e ➝ add -d
◦ Verbs ending in -y ➝ change to -ied
We are learning to recognise the simple past tense form of irregular verbs and to locate the corresponding column in a list of verbs.
