The voice is AI Generated from information I submitted to NotebookLM. I moved to the Philippines on September 6, 2012, with a backpack, my computer, and drawing/art materials to write, play, and make videos. Retirement here is cheaper than in the USA.
About the second or third year, I stopped receiving my Social Security deposits. I called the USA Social Security office in Wilkes-Barre, PA. They told me to contact the Social Security office in Manila. The Manila office asked me to email an updated and signed SSA-7162. I did, and the problem was rapidly resolved. The Filipinos at the Social Security office were fast, extremely courteous, and efficient. My check was deposited within two days.
I was told I had to file every couple of years. I asked if I could send the papers to them ahead of time to be proactive, but I was told they could resolve issues but not submit papers unless payments stopped. Every couple of years, the payments would stop, I would send my papers, and it would be fixed. About four years ago, I could no longer email my forms to —I had to send them via LBC registered courier to get my Social Security paperwork to the SSA. Thinking I could be proactive and prevent the "stop payment" issue, last year, I sent the SSA-7162 and SSA-7161 directly to the USA Social Security office in Wilkes-Barre, PA. However, the payments still stopped.
When I called the Social Security office in Wilkes-Barre last year to verify the receipt of my letter, I was told to deal with the Social Security office in Manila. I sent the forms via LBC registered mail to Manila, and it was fixed in a couple of days. The last I knew, the SSA-7161 had to be filed every two years. Since I filed last year, I did not worry about it. I have been here for twelve years and received only one renewal notice ten years ago. It arrived over three months after the USA postmark date.
Current Situation:I have not received my Social Security deposit for February. It was due on the 3rd. When I did not receive my deposit, I emailed the Manila Social Security office. Their response was automated:
"We typically respond to e-mail inquiries within 10 - 15 business days."
Since I am familiar with the system, I sent my documents via LBC certified mail to the Social Security office on February 4th and sent another email, stating: "My documents were shipped to your office; here is my receipt for delivery."You have been sent my records LBC Express.
Re: This has reach an Emergency situation, I have no money To:
Of course, I received another automated response. Today is Feb 25 no email, no answer to my phone calls. Then I started looking around and discovered that thousands of expats have not gotten their deposits. The understaffed Social Security office in Manila is swamped with expats needing help to get their Social Security accounts reinstated. I initially thought the Manila office only served the Philippines, but I found out that it also serves many other Asian countries. Many expats rely on these payments for medicine and healthcare. I am sure American expats will suffer terribly because of the current situation. These deposits are our lifeline. Every Ofice os the USA Goverment says deal with fub.Manila Office They used to be the fastest way to resolve any problem, that is prior to having a reduced budget. At the very least, the Social Security office in Manila should be fully staffed.
