We are all familiar with the Pontiac Fieros (which were the first mass-produced mid-engined sports car by a U.S. manufacturer from 1983-1988) but rarely do you see one modified like this! This beautiful pro street example has an interesting story behind. The car was originally found abandoned along the fox river in northern Illinois. According to the owner who purchased it some 15 years ago for $100 from a local junkyard basically all that was salvageable was the body. The motor was locked up and the brakes were full of river bed sand and gravel. Like a lot of project cars it sat while being worked on over the years as the funds became available. The car which was pretty much finished up 3 years ago has only been driven around town and never over 40 mph.
Besides the all new custom interior and other custom modifications what you don't see is the undercarriage. The car is not chassied and still has the stock unibody with steel plates welded in at all 4 corners. Front suspension is a straight axle and rear is a four link setup.
The plan at the track was to make an easy pass to make sure everything held together and the car didn't go right or left. Letting off early the car handled well with an elapsed time of [email protected]. Unfortunately the rain came and ended the racing but next time out the plan is to turn up the boost and see if he can get the car into the 10's! #prostreet #fiero #pontiac
