Dead Malls Season 6 Episode 16 - Midway Mall (OH)

Located at the crux of the Ohio Turnpike, and I-90 lies a scatter of old big box retail. With most of it dating back to the 80s and early 90s. Pulling in off the Turnpike you might see the giant abandoned movie theater, or the huge abandoned Days Inn off the side of the freeway. Coming off 90 you might see a few strip malls, the old Walmart, and some light retail. But in the center of it all, lies Midway Mall. Elyria’s hidden liminal treasure..
Thru the retail apocalypse, and the current exodus of remaining outdated brands going bankrupt in the 2020s; Midway still sits, barely open, and awaiting redevelopment. It was a surreal sight for sure, and towards the end I even got the “police” called on me by a squabbly security woman. 😂
So join me today, as I tell the story and take you on a tour of Elyrias very own, Midway Mall.
