The Canal that became a Railway. The Portsea Canal, Portsmouth, Hampshire

Описание к видео The Canal that became a Railway. The Portsea Canal, Portsmouth, Hampshire

The early 1800s. Britain is at war (again) with France and the need for shipping at sea to avoid the attention of the French is desired. The Portsea Canal crossing Portsea Island was the western extremity of an attempt to build and connect a series of inland waterways from Portsmouth to London. Very short lived, this canal took the guise of another form of transport. Join me in another explore to find what remains of this long disappeared waterway.
