government officials in a military helicopter crash that occurred on Tuesday in the country’s northern region. The crash, which took place during adverse weather conditions, claimed the lives of two senior ministers and four military personnel, plunging the nation into shock and

According to the Ghana Armed Forces, the helicopter—a Mi-171Sh transport aircraft—was en route from Tamale to Bawku when it lost contact with air traffic control. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft struggling in heavy rains and low visibility before it went down near the town
of Walewale. Among the deceased are Minister of Defence Dominic Nitiwul and Minister for the Interior Ambrose Dery, both key figures in President Nana Akufo-Addo’s cabinet.

The two were reportedly traveling to assess security deployments in the Upper East Region amid growing concerns over cross-border militant activity. Their deaths mark a significant blow to Ghana's
national leadership. President Akufo-Addo, in a televised address to the nation, expressed deep sorrow and called for a week of national mourning. “This is a devastating loss for our country. These were men of
integrity, service, and courage who gave their lives in the defense of Ghana,” he said. Flags have been ordered to fly at half-mast across all public institutions, and condolence books have been opened at government offices nationwide. Investigations into the cause of the crash
