Off Camera Flash Photography Tutorial // Quality of Light (Soft and Hard Light)

In this off camera flash photography tutorial, I go over light quality of different light modifiers when used with Godox strobes and speedlights. For beginner strobists this is how to make your vision come to life. We discuss hard and soft light, with side-by-side examples. Then I show how large and small light modifiers compare to one another in quality of light. Additionally, I show how the same modifier can be used for varying levels of hardness of light by changing it's distance to the subject.
The larger the light source relative to the subject, the softer the light will be. Light softness is characterized by a slow transition from light to dark. Hard light has a rapid transition from light to dark, which renders itself with sharp lines as shadows.

Flash Photography Tutorial
This series of videos is designed to help off-camera flash beginners quickly advance to lighting with purpose. First, this series assumes you have an understanding of the exposure triangle, and are capable of controlling your camera in Manual mode. While it's possible to use flash with semi-automatic modes, I think it's a requirement to understand lighting in manual mode if you want to take control of all aspects of your images. This series is broken down into short, easy-to-digest lessons that progress you from balancing a single light, to using multiple lights outdoors to drive home the story in your image.
