This description gives you an insight into the method of my madness.

I had no idea what I was doing with this program when I started. I had a blank empty score in front of me and I was clueless. David gave me a brief tutorial and that allowed me to begin writing and figure out the rest for myself. So the first movement was written without any experience in writing for an orchestra, or using Sibelius. I had to give myself some sort of theme so I could develop the piece. Obviously I could develop it with theory, and I do I just don't realise it.

The story is about a young man who joins the army and goes to war, and eventually is killed in battle. Eventually his body is shipped back home and his family then go to see him. In this moment they remember all the great things about him, all of the memories -- giving birth to him, his first steps, his first words, his first day at school, his first girlfriend, etc. The next scene is his body in a casket being lowered into the ground, and instead of his family in tears, they are smiling because they realise that one day they will all meet again up in the heavens. I won't write the times of these moments because when I showed the movement to other people they said different parts come in at different times for them. I guess that the story is solid, but the transitions are for the listeners interpretations.

Because this was written for a film/game/TV series there are parts where there is a lack of texture, this is done on purpose as originally I had planned to film some game footage for the background. I did not go through with that idea because it was taking up a lot of time to get the footage, and getting in the way of my 40 credit music project.
