PenAir serves small Alaskan villages such as Cold Bay quite often because it's a lifeline for countless other villages. They are one of the last Saab 2000 operators in the world, but the aircraft fits their operations well.

PenAir was bought out by RavnAir Group in 2018 but continues to operate under their separate identity, even though they are codeshared. Ravn filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy at the end of April 2020 due to a loss in revenue from the COVID-19 pandemic.
