Let's Encrypt Your New WordPress Site at NameCheap.com with SSL

HTTPS and SSL are the technologies behind the more secure internet. And recently, Google started treating websites with HTTPS more valuable than websites without. This is why I think it is a very important step to set up your website with SSL and actually make it the default.

What HTTPS does is basically telling the browser that it's actually you who is serving the website and that the user is not viewing some fake website. In addition to that the traffic between the user and the server is encrypted. Which is not as essential for a simple website like a blog (most likely people are not entering any high-value info there anyway) but still state of the art and since the start of the Free Platform LetsEncrypt.com, there is no good reason not to do it anymore.

However, there is one downside with NameCheap as a host. NameCheap does not support Let's Encrypt by default. There are other hosters who do and it sucks that NameCheap decided against it. But I am still a fan of the overall service they offer and there are two alternative ways:

1) you can use the service CloudFlare for free that offers many great features and one of them is HTTP for your website. Maybe I will make a video about this service in the future. For now, I will focus on the NameCheap paid option.

2) you can buy an SSL certificate from NameCheap and install it via the CPanel, I will also show this way in this video.

In general, I would say: if you are just building an "About Me" page without anything around it, go without SSL. Skip this video and go straight to the next one. If, however, you want to build a big blog website and store and all that. You should definitely get an SSL either via CloudFlare or via your Host (and if the Host offers LetsEncrypt, then it is a no-brainer).

In the next video we are going back to the WordPress interface which is much easier to work with. And we are going to look at the Theme I recommend and use for almost all websites nowadays.
