Batman was A BEAST in The Dark Knight Returns

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Part One and Part Two are regarded as some of the best DC animated movies ever released. They are among the most faithful adaptations of any iconic DC Comics storyline, avoiding any drastic changes from the source material. The story centers on a much older Bruce Wayne, who has recently come out of retirement as Batman, facing a multitude of enemies and allies alike, such as the Mutant gang, Two-Face, Joker, and Superman. In this timeline, many former members of the Justice League, like Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Green Arrow, have gone their separate ways and retired long ago, with the exception of Superman. Many DC adaptations have referenced The Dark Knight Returns, including a Batman Arkham City skin and episodes from Batman: The Animated Series, among others. Zack Snyder’s DCEU also took heavy inspiration from the storyline when Ben Affleck's Batman faced Henry Cavill's Superman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, though that universe is now being rebooted under James Gunn's DCU.
