The Ten Stroke Roll is essentially a nine stroke roll with an additional accented single stroke at the end of it. The two single strokes at the end of the ten stroke roll are played at half the speed of the double stokes, so if you are counting/playing the doubles as 16th notes the single strokes would be played as 8th notes. There are many similarities between the six stoke roll and the ten stroke rolls in how we approach them. The ten stroke roll can also be interpreted in duple form which played with one accented single stoke before the double strokes and one accented double stroke following the doubles. This video demonstrates working on the ten stroke roll first as six 16th note single strokes and then progresses to doubling the first four singles and making them double strokes. As always, start slow and get comfortable with the sticking and timing of the rudiment and be sure to practice alternating your lead hand. As always, have fun with it!
