Tried out a new area known for its crappie and catfish population. We tried a few different parks connected to this lake but we're terribly successful. This is my fourth trip since the last video so not skunking out (as a group) was a victory in itself. This is our second attempt at catfishing so we're still learning. We used hotdogs/jello for bait. I definitely want to come back for crappie but it's a good distance to get here.

The video is short by my standards since there we're only three hooksets. Kim landed two blue catfish, besting me again, I mess with time elapsing, and my new Diawa Regal 4000BRi got to see a little action. I showoff my skills by getting the catfish snagged. I freed it but unfortunately, the hook remains with it.

In case it matters to anyone; My first impression of the Daiwa Regal BRi is that it's extremely heavy. I knew the weight ahead of time but it's hard to judge until it's paired up with the rod and in your hands. It's main purpose is for bait fishing so it's not a primary concern. I really like the mechanics of the baitrunner reel. I'm not sure if all baitrunner reels are contoured the same but even the switch between the two drags felt like a natural motion for this type of fishing. The real test will come with larger fish but so far, I'm far from regretting this purchase. This is my first personal reel that wasn't a Shimano, however since it was my first baitrunner, I wasn't prepared to drop a lot of cash yet.

My catfish gear today included my new Daiwa Regal 4000BRi and Ugly Stik 9'0" medium action. PowerPro (Hi-Vis Yellow) Braid 20lbs, Sunline Fluorocarbon 10lbs, and size 2/0 Gamakatsu octopus circle hooks.

Kim is currently using a Shimano Solstace 4000FI and Ugly Stik Big Water Series 6'6" medium action spooled with PowerPro (Moss Green) Braid 30lbs. The setup is a little on the heavy side but it was already in my arsenal and it still worked well enough.

I do not get paid through any sponsorships and work hard to have what I own. I favor certain brands because the gear works for me. I fish for my enjoyment but would love to be able to pass on a little knowledge or inspiration. I'd always rather be fishing!
