Featured in this video is Tony Succar and his Latin Tribute Band and lead vocalist Jean Rodgriguez. This is an in studio performance for XM Radio.
Salsa bands generally don't have drums in their music, so I thought it would be really dope to put drums on this. I saw this video sometime last year and after viewing i KNEW i had to have some fun on this. I was dragging my feet BIG time on this one. Whats mind blowing is that I finished this video ON MIKES BIRTHDAY!!! I had NO IDEA!!!!! It kind of freaked me out a little bit. So here you guys are!! CRANK THIS ONE!!! I added the famous drum intro at the beginning myself, I also sneak in there a few more times too, listen closely!

Drum talk*

Ok, so for this tune I wanted a really high pitched, open, raspy and resonant drum tone from the toms. So with this kit, I'm using single ply coated heads with NO MUFFLING WHATSOEVER on any drums excpet the kick drum. The snare drum is the same as the JT video that a lot of drummers really love, its made of aluminum and it is my favorite material for a snare dum. Its tone is very melodious and warm, but can still CRACK!! Im also using room mics, but because the mix of the radio performance is so clean and dry, i took them out to match their sound. Check out the end to hear the drums natural tone with some of the room added.(i accidentally forgot to take the audio off the camera shot from 5:46-6:14) and YES that is the same kit from the movie STEP BROTHERS!! LOL

The ride cymbal is very special to me, the very first ride cymbal I had ever gotten as a kid. Growing up i always preferred a ping sound so it sat in a bag for MANY YEARS!! My dad hands it back to me some decades later and it sounds GREAT its an old Zildjian Ride!! maybe from the early 70's.
