On February 4th, 1976, an earthquake hit Guatemala, causing over 20,000 deaths and making 1.2 million people homeless. The Guatemalan Red Cross aided by relief teams from other Red Cross Societies in North, Central and South America, immediately started relief efforts, while the League of Red Cross Societies launched a global appeal for relief supplies. The film shows the first phase of the emergency relief operation: first aid stations; distribution of food, water, and clothing. The film also shows the beginning of the programme to construct temporary shelters for the homeless before the start of the rainy season.
