Dan Bailey Takes on 100 lb MURPH

The MURPH Hero WOD honors the life and legacy of U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy. It’s a tough workout that includes a 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, and ends with another 1-mile run. Women wear an extra 14 lb in a ruck or weight vest, and men wear 20 lb. But that doesn’t mean you can’t challenge yourself to wearing even more weight.

A workout this tough requires insanely durable gear that can keep up with you, that includes your footwear. Especially if you’re trying the workout with 100 extra pounds on you like Dan Bailey has.

“The support [from the Ballistic Trainers] was great. I knew they were the shoe to wear for a test like this. I’ve been wearing the GORUCK trainer on and off since the first rendition came out and recognized it immediately for being an overbuilt, supportive, and durable all-around gym shoe. Those qualities are a big part of what I look for in a shoe and that’s what the trainer provides.

When training, I don’t want an overly cushiony base for my foot to work on, and the dual Eva midsole provides the best of both worlds. The cushioning is soft enough to provide comfort and hard enough to provide the stability I needed for both the 2 miles of running (with 100lbs) and 300 air squats.

The wide toe box is another feature that I appreciate as an athlete. Whether you are coaching or carrying around 100lbs on your back, the feet are going to swell and spread during the day and the toe box provides the space to accommodate the forefoot while still lacing up tight and giving a secure fit across the top of the shoe.

During and after my feet were just fine, like any other workout. The GORUCK Ballistic Trainer delivered on what I needed most for 100lb ‘Murph.’” - Dan Bailey
