Here’s an exercise working hertas and close singles control. Triplet based, 4-2-1 structure. First putting a sextuplet single herta on the first partial off the right hand, then put the herta on the second partial off the left hand. Then follow the 421 form accordingly. You end on the “1”s with alternating hand to hand single hertas, requiring a good balance finesse- light rebounded strokes- and control - in the wrist- to execute accurately.

All wrist strokes here. At faster tempos more fingers will be involved for finesse and speed. But this should still be produced with mostly wrist. We are focusing on quality of sound and resonance of the stick as always. Most important is rhythmical accuracy - the added sextuplet note landing perfectly in between the two triplets. It is easy to crush the rhythm too much especially on the hand to hand singles - keep it open and relaxed. Honestly in the example vid I closed it down too much !

Hertas are so versatile - moving them around the drums is a beautiful sound. It is also nice to split it up with each hand on a different surface. Notice as you break it down and isolate each hand you have The lead hand playing double strokes with two partials of the triplet, while the non-lead hand isolated is just playing 8th notes.
