2024 - Battle of Longwoods War of 1812 Reenactment

The British Crown Forces of North America and the Forces of the United States clash during the Longwoods War of 1812 reenactment weekend. This video features the battle on Saturday 4th May 2024. Unfortunately we do not have video of Sunday's engagement. This event honours the original Battle of Longwoods fought on 4th March 1814, in which a British Force of around 240 all ranks launched an attack against an American raiding party of 164 all ranks. Due to tactical miscalculations, the main attack by the Centre of the British Force was stalled when the troops could not overcome abatis in front of the American position, they subsequently struggled on the icy ground. The British Centre was pushed back and the attack called off. The British Commander had initially planned for his Rangers and Native Allies to perform a flanking maneuver from each flank. The Natives did not press their attack, and the Rangers were too few to make an impact without being overwhelmed.
